Driver dies after medical emergency causes single-vehicle crash

Vicksburg Police Department said a 62-year-old woman died after suffering a medical emergency while driving and striking a fixed object in a parking lot about 7 p.m. July 19, 2026.

The department said the crash occurred in the parking lot of 2842 Clay Street. Preliminary investigation indicates the woman experienced a medical emergency behind the wheel and struck a fixed object in the lot, resulting in a single-vehicle crash.

The driver was transported to Merit Health River Region for treatment, where she later died, the department said. Officials are withholding the woman’s identity pending notification of next of kin and said the name will be released once those notifications are complete.

The Vicksburg Police Department is continuing its investigation and has not released additional details. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
