Driver arrested after hit-and-run crash with school bus in Bentonia
BENTONIA, Mississippi — Deputies responded early Aug. 19 to a crash involving a school bus and a white SUV at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 433, the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office said. The driver of the SUV left the scene without reporting the accident, but there were no reported injuries and all students on the bus were safely transported to school, the office said.
During the course of the investigation, deputies identified the driver as Katherine Coleman of Bentonia, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators later located the vehicle concealed behind her residence and took Coleman into custody. She is being held at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility, the office said.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing. Officials did not release information about potential charges or a motive.
Yazoo County is in central Mississippi. The sheriff’s office thanked the public that no students or other individuals were injured in the incident. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
