Community members will gather July 17 at Rick’s Cafe to raise money for Corporal Colby Huffman, organizers said. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature pulled pork plates with a portion of proceeds directed to Huffman’s recovery.
According to a Facebook post announcing the event, Huffman, a member of the Starkville Police Department, was injured in late February during a traffic accident while assisting in the escort of a funeral service. Organizers said they are partnering with the Del Rendon Foundation to help cover ongoing medical and travel expenses for Huffman and his family.
The fundraiser will include live performances by local acts Lee Battle, Hard Luck Trio and JD and The Muddy River Band, organizers said. Event organizers invited the public to bring friends and support the officer by purchasing meals during the benefit.
This event is part of broader community support for first responders after on-duty injuries. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
