Cleanup operations are underway after a commercial vehicle leaked diesel fuel on Interstate 20 east near Exit 1A early Friday, the Vicksburg Police Department said in a Facebook post. The department said the incident occurred around 3 a.m. Aug. 7 when an 18-wheeler struck an unknown object in the roadway, sustaining damage and becoming disabled.
Authorities estimated about 100 gallons of diesel spilled onto the interstate, affecting both eastbound lanes. The Warrenton Road on-ramp to Interstate 20 east also remained closed while crews worked to remove the disabled truck and clean the roadway, the post said.
The Vicksburg Fire Department responded to the scene and the City of Vicksburg dispatched a sand truck to assist with containing and cleaning the fuel spill. Traffic moved slowly through the area; motorists were urged to use caution, expect delays and consider alternate routes while crews complete cleanup.
