Biloxi warns of malfunctioning railroad crossing arms at Caillavet Street

The City of Biloxi said in a Facebook post that railroad crossing arms at the intersection of Caillavet Street are not working properly and urged motorists and pedestrians to use caution.

The advisory, posted on the city’s official social media account, did not provide further details on the cause of the malfunction or a timeline for repairs. The city asked residents to remain alert when approaching the crossing.

Railroad crossing arms are designed to lower across roadways to block vehicular and pedestrian traffic when a train approaches. When they fail to function, the risk of collisions increases because drivers and walkers may not receive the usual visual and physical warnings to stop for oncoming trains.

Until repairs are completed, authorities generally recommend that drivers and pedestrians stop, look both ways and listen for trains before crossing tracks, obey any signals and proceed only when it is safe. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
