Armed suspect at large after Polkville shooting; deputies uninjured

As of 7:45 p.m., Kevin Clay Adams, known as “KC,” remained at large and is considered armed and dangerous, Sheriff Joel Houston said in a Facebook post. No deputies were injured in the shooting, the sheriff said.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Smith County deputies were serving a warrant on Highway 13 in Polkville near the fire department when the suspect retrieved a firearm and began shooting at deputies, Houston said. Deputies returned fire, and the suspect fled on foot. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist in the search.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a blue shirt and gray pants, Houston said. Officials urged residents to keep doors and vehicles locked and to call 911 immediately with any information or suspicious activity.

The search is ongoing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
