MSDH shares four food safety steps for tailgating season
The Mississippi State Department of Health is reminding people to follow four food safety steps as tailgating season gets underway during National Food Safety Education Month in September.
The department advises washing hands, surfaces and utensils; keeping raw meat away from ready-to-eat foods; using a food thermometer to ensure food reaches a safe internal temperature; and keeping cold foods cold while refrigerating leftovers promptly.
The guidance applies whether people are attending games at a stadium or watching from home. MSDH directs the public to its Healthy Mobile App and website, www.msdh.ms.gov, for updates.
