MSDH offers free Tdap shots, birth certificates in Lincoln County
The Mississippi State Department of Health is offering free Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccinations and birth certificates to residents affected by last week’s tornadoes in Lincoln, Lamar and Franklin counties, the agency said.
The services will be available Wednesday and Thursday, May 13-14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lincoln County Safe Room, 1154 Beltline Drive in Brookhaven. The American Red Cross will also be on site with resources, the department said.
Residents and first responders ages 19 and older in impacted areas may receive a free Tdap vaccine regardless of insurance status, the Mississippi State Department of Health said. The department noted a Tdap booster is recommended if it has been 10 years or more since the last vaccination.
Tdap protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. Public health officials commonly promote tetanus-containing vaccines after storms because injuries from debris and cleanup can increase risk of exposure to tetanus. For storm safety tips, the department directs residents to msdh.ms.gov/afterstorm and to the MSDH Healthy Mobile App or www.msdh.ms.gov for updates.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
