Jackson attorney Ron Yarbrough is donating $1 million to the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Cancer Center and Research Institute to expand access to advanced cancer care and honor the memory of his wife, Jean, the UMMC Foundation said.
Yarbrough’s gift was inspired by a personal journey through cancer, the foundation said. The contribution is intended as a lasting investment in cancer care in Mississippi and to help more patients receive treatment closer to home.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the state’s academic medical center and houses specialized cancer treatment and research programs that serve patients across Mississippi. Philanthropic gifts to cancer centers commonly support patient services, clinical trials, equipment and research aimed at improving outcomes.
The foundation said the gift will support the Cancer Center and Research Institute’s ongoing work to bring advanced treatments to patients in the state and to strengthen local cancer care. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
