MDWFP outlines factors for choosing management bucks

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is directing readers to information on how to decide which bucks should be considered management bucks.

The agency says the decision involves more than counting antler points or judging antler size. Factors include a buck’s age, habitat, deer density, property-specific data and the goals of the management program.

The guidance also addresses which bucks should be harvested and which should be left alone, while cautioning that some commonly used rules may not be as effective as often assumed. MDWFP directs readers to its full article for more information on making management-buck decisions.
