MDWFP points to vegetation when assessing deer numbers
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks says vegetation can help deer managers determine whether a property has more deer than its habitat can support.
The agency said the number of deer seen on a property is not the only measure to consider. Managers can evaluate several factors, including warning signs in the vegetation, before deciding whether the herd has become too large or whether to harvest more does.
MDWFP directed readers to its full article for information on the warning signs and how to evaluate a property.
