MDWFP outlines 2026-2027 CWD management zones for Mississippi hunters
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is reminding hunters about the 2026-2027 Chronic Wasting Disease management zones as deer season approaches.
The North Mississippi Management Zone includes all of Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties, along with portions of Coahoma, Quitman, Pontotoc and Tunica counties. The zone includes areas north of Highway 278 in Pontotoc County for the 2026-2027 season.
The Issaquena Management Zone includes portions of Issaquena County and all of Warren and Claiborne counties. The Harrison Management Zone includes portions of Harrison and Hancock counties.
Whole deer carcasses may not be transported outside a CWD management zone, and supplemental feeding is prohibited in all such zones. Hunters may transport completely deboned meat; bone-in quarters without any part of the spinal column or head attached; antlers or cleaned skull plates; cleaned skulls with no tissue attached; cleaned teeth; finished taxidermy and antler products; hides and tanned products; and portions of white-tailed deer from land outside an MDWFP-defined CWD management zone between the Mississippi River levees in Arkansas and Louisiana.
Deer heads may be taken outside a management zone only to a permitted taxidermist participating in the CWD collection program. MDWFP directs hunters to its website for specific zone boundaries, maps and carcass-transportation information.
