Mark Spence receives Safety and Security award at SCSD convocation

Chief Mark Spence, a school resource officer, received the Safety and Security award during the SCSD convocation, a Facebook post said.

The post congratulated him, saying “Great job Chief Spence” and “We appreciate you, Mark Spence,” the post said.

School resource officers, commonly known as SROs, are law enforcement personnel assigned to schools to help maintain safety, respond to incidents and build relationships with students and staff. Recognition of an SRO highlights the role school safety plays in district operations.

Convocations are gatherings school districts use for training, planning and recognizing staff accomplishments. Acknowledging employees at such events signals a district emphasis on security and community partnerships that support student learning.

Details about the award criteria and the convocation were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
