Deputy Thornton Gray receives Jake Nester ‘Heart of a Hornet’ Award

Deputy Thornton Gray has been named the recipient of the Jake Nester “Heart of a Hornet” Award, a Facebook post announced. The post said the award honors the qualities Coach Jake Nester stood for: heart, dedication, character, service and an unwavering commitment to Lake High School.

The post noted that the award was presented by the previous quarter’s recipient, Stephanie Boles, continuing a tradition that recognizes members of the school community who exemplify the spirit of a Hornet. The message thanked Officer Gray for his positive impact on students, staff and the school community.

Lake High School’s Hornets nickname appears throughout the post; the award and related hashtags signal a focus on school pride and community service. School resource officers and deputies often play roles in campus safety and relationship building, and honors like this spotlight those contributions to daily school life.

The Facebook post used two spellings of Gray’s name, referring to him as Deputy Thorton Gray early in the message and as Officer Thornton Gray later. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
