Independent historian Chris Danielson will offer a reassessment of the civil rights movement and the individuals who shaped it at noon Wednesday, Sept. 23, as part of the History Is Lunch series.
The free event will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the Mississippi Department of Archives and History’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Danielson’s book, "Brother Outsider, Brother Insider," examines the life and work of Lawrence Thomas Guyot Jr., a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee field secretary in the 1960s who fought poverty and racism in the South and championed voting rights for Black Mississippians.
Jon Ross Myers founded Mississippi News Group in 2013. Before founding the organization, he worked at The Daily Mississippian, The Marion Salute and The Southern Sentinel. A Mississippi journalist and writer based in Ripley, he received second place in poetry in the 2025 William Faulkner Literary Competition for "The Garden."
