Greenville Higher Education Center celebrates 25 years

The Mississippi Delta Community College Greenville Campus, also known as the Greenville Higher Education Center, celebrated its 25th anniversary with recognition of its role in education, workforce development and economic opportunity in the Mississippi Delta.

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons thanked GHEC Campus Director Temika Michael Simmons for her leadership and commitment to advancing higher education and workforce opportunity in Greenville and throughout the Mississippi Delta.

The mayor also recognized Dr. Steven Jones, Rep. Willie Bailey, Curtis Buchanan, Dr. Dorothy Nelson, Margaret Karr and Dean Allison Folk, along with the center’s students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners, for contributing to the celebration.

According to the celebration statement, GHEC has served for 25 years as a site for learning, college access, workforce development, innovation and economic development. The center’s work was described as changing lives, strengthening families and creating pathways to opportunity.

The anniversary comes as Mississippi Delta Community College marks 100 years. The college said it was celebrating GHEC’s first 25 years and looking ahead to the generations of students and communities the center will continue to serve.
