CDL simulator arrives at Mississippi State Penitentiary’s Unit 25

A commercial driver’s license simulator has arrived at Mississippi State Penitentiary’s Unit 25, offering participants hands-on training with realistic driving scenes, road conditions and scenarios designed to prepare them for commercial driving.

The program is intended to provide education, workforce preparation and a marketable skill that participants can carry with them upon release. MSP Education Director Kimberly Meeks said rehabilitation includes providing individuals with tools, training and opportunities for a successful second chance.

Participants and staff identified in connection with the simulator include Charles Dunn, CDL instructors George Calicut and Larry Hester, MSP volunteer Rondalynn Haruna and Superintendent Frank Caswell.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections also acknowledged Deputy Commissioner Kelley Christopher, Chief Superintendent Marc McClure and Deputy Warden-K9 Sanders for helping transport the big rig to Parchman Farms and making the opportunity possible.
