Two people were killed early Sunday when a silver Lincoln Town Car left the roadway and struck a tree in Columbus, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at approximately 4:25 a.m. to an automated vehicle-accident notification near the 400 block of Black Creek Road. They found two unresponsive people inside the extensively damaged vehicle. Emergency Medical Services later confirmed that both were deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle may have been traveling at a high rate of speed, causing the driver to lose control before the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
The identities of the deceased will not be released until family members are notified and appropriate procedures are completed. The investigation remains ongoing.
