The Vicksburg Police Department’s Citizens Academy will begin Week One tomorrow with an introductory session for its newest class.
The opening week is designed to help participants get acquainted with the department, learn more about its work and meet department personnel. The academy also will provide a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement and a better understanding of how the department serves the community, according to the department.
Jon Ross Myers founded Mississippi News Group in 2013. Before founding the organization, he worked at The Daily Mississippian, The Marion Salute and The Southern Sentinel. A Mississippi journalist and writer based in Ripley, he received second place in poetry in the 2025 William Faulkner Literary Competition for "The Garden."
