Pontotoc Electric offers 10 tips for saving energy this fall

Pontotoc Electric Power Association is encouraging households to focus on energy efficiency as fall weather cools, offering 10 ways to save energy and keep homes cozy.

The suggestions include switching from incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs, which use up to 90% less energy; unplugging chargers and other electronics when they are not in use; and sealing windows and doors to keep cold air out and warmth in.

The association also recommends using a programmable thermostat and setting it to save energy when residents are away. Washing clothes in cold water, using natural light by opening blinds, and turning off lights when leaving a room were also included.

For appliances, the guidance calls for looking for the ENERGY STAR label. It also recommends air-drying laundry instead of using a dryer and cooking with a microwave or toaster oven, which use less energy than a conventional oven.
