LOVE’S Kitchen board remembers Fannie Johnson, temporarily suspends service

The LOVE’S Kitchen Board of Directors is remembering Fannie Johnson, the organization’s executive director in Meridian, Mississippi, and has temporarily suspended service as it celebrates her life.

In its statement, the board said Johnson welcomed people, helped those in need, encouraged others and gave of herself generously. Through her leadership at LOVE’S Kitchen, she became a familiar presence for people and families facing difficult circumstances, representing compassion, dignity and hope.

The statement said Johnson understood that a meal could mean more than food: It could express love, remind someone that others cared and provide comfort during a difficult season. It described her impact through the people she touched, encouraged and helped.

The board said Johnson’s legacy is woven into Meridian through the people she served, the relationships she built and the example she set for others.

The board said LOVE’S Kitchen will reopen to continue “the charitable legacy of Fannie’s mission at LOVE’s Kitchen that she worked so hard to establish.” The statement concluded with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23.
