Greenville officials discuss TAP grant for Historic Nelson Street improvements

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons walked Historic Nelson Street with Mississippi Department of Transportation Central Commissioner Willie Simmons to discuss the Transportation Alternatives Program grant and potential infrastructure improvements along the historic corridor.

The potential investments include sidewalks, pedestrian accessibility, safety, connectivity and streetscape improvements. The effort is intended to support the continued revitalization of Nelson Street while honoring its history.

“Historic Nelson Street represents generations of culture, entrepreneurship, music, and community. We are working to ensure that the infrastructure reflects the significance of this historic corridor and supports new investment, tourism, businesses, and opportunity for generations to come,” Mayor Simmons said.

Simmons thanked Willie Simmons for his continued partnership and commitment to transportation and infrastructure investments throughout Greenville and the Mississippi Delta.
