Commerce Street closure planned Monday for Tupelo building demolition

Commerce Street in downtown Tupelo will close to through traffic Monday, Sept. 28, beginning at approximately 6:30 a.m. for a building demolition project, the City of Tupelo Public Works Department said.

The closure will affect the section between East Main Street and East Jefferson Street and will remain in place until demolition is complete, weather and site conditions permitting.

Officials said the closure is needed to provide a safe work area and protect motorists, pedestrians and construction personnel. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Drivers near the work zone should use caution, follow posted signs and traffic-control devices, and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
