Heat forecast for Rebels-Charlotte game includes 92-degree afternoon

The Rebels are scheduled to host Charlotte tonight at 6:45, with hot conditions expected in Lafayette County before kickoff, according to the Lafayette County EMA.

Sunny skies are expected as temperatures rise to about 92 degrees during the afternoon. Humidity could make it feel like 98 degrees between noon and 5 p.m. A stray storm is possible from this morning into early afternoon, with a quick downpour and gust of wind, but the source said nothing severe is expected.

Gates open at 4:45, when temperatures are expected to remain near 90 degrees. At the 6:45 p.m. kickoff, the forecast calls for 84 degrees and clear skies.

Postgame conditions are expected to be clear and calm, with temperatures in the mid-70s. Patchy fog is likely on county roads late tonight and early Sunday morning; drivers were advised to slow down and use low beams.

Lafayette County is under a burn ban that prohibits campfires, bonfires, fire pits, fire rings, burn barrels, debris burning and field burning on gameday and any other day.

The EMA advised people to drink water throughout the day, take breaks in shade or air conditioning, wear light-colored loose clothing and a hat, and never leave children or pets in a parked car. Sunday is expected to be sunny and hotter, near 95 degrees with a heat index near 99 degrees. No weather watches or warnings are in effect for Lafayette County.
