Facebook says content unavailable when owner limits audience or deletes it

A Facebook notice says content may be unavailable because the owner shared it with a small group, changed who can see it or deleted it.

Facebook is a social media platform owned by Meta that allows users to control who sees their posts through settings such as public, friends, groups or custom lists. When a post’s visibility is restricted or altered, people who previously could access a link may see a message explaining the content is not available.

The notice can affect readers, reporters and researchers who follow links expecting to view referenced material. Links to posts in private groups, friends-only pages or accounts with tightened privacy will return the message even when the original content remains on the site for a limited audience. When a user deletes a post, the material is removed and the same message can appear for anyone trying to view it.

The brief notice does not provide additional details about who changed settings or why. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
