Facebook content unavailable when owner limits audience or deletes post
A Facebook notification informs users that some posts are not accessible because the owner restricted the audience, changed visibility settings or removed the post. The on-screen message reads: “When this happens, it’s usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it’s been deleted.”
Facebook, which is operated by Meta Platforms Inc., allows users to set privacy controls that limit who can view individual posts. Users can share content publicly, with friends, with a selected group or with custom lists, and changing those settings can make previously visible material inaccessible to others.
Content can also disappear if the person who posted it deletes it or if Facebook removes it for violating community standards. The notice is common when journalists, friends or family members try to access links or posts that were intended for a narrower audience or have been taken down.
The message underscores ongoing tensions between user privacy, platform moderation and public access to social media content. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
