Xavier sweeps Blue Mountain Christian volleyball in New Orleans

Xavier (La.) defeated Blue Mountain Christian University in three sets Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center, winning 25-18, 25-17, 25-22 as the Volley Toppers closed out their New Orleans road trip.

Xavier took control in the opening set, 25-18. Blue Mountain Christian recorded eight kills in the second set, but Xavier maintained its advantage and won 25-17 to move ahead 2-0.

Blue Mountain Christian produced its strongest push in the third set, recording a match-high 10 kills and staying within striking distance. Xavier held off the rally to take the set 25-22 and complete the sweep.

Marissa Gerleman led Blue Mountain Christian with eight kills, while Salice Speed added six kills and two service aces. Sydney Tague had a team-high 12 assists, and Brenyn Wilbanks finished with eight.

Mattie Hopper contributed three blocks, and Gerleman added two. Abbi Williams led the Volley Toppers with 14 digs, while Speed had five. Blue Mountain Christian finished with 27 kills, eight service aces, four blocks and 32 digs.

The Volley Toppers return home Friday to continue SSAC play against William Carey.
