Ole Miss volleyball swept by No. 22 Kansas in Jayhawk Classic opener

Ole Miss opened the Jayhawk Classic with a 3-0 loss to No. 22 Kansas on Friday night at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in Lawrence, Kansas. The Rebels fell to 6-4, while Kansas improved to 6-3.

Melia Johnson led Ole Miss with eight kills and three digs. Keirstyn Carlton returned from injury and recorded four kills while hitting .444 and adding four blocks.

Kansas took the first set 25-19 after building a 19-15 lead. Ole Miss had stayed within one point at 15-14, with three swings from Shayla Meyer helping keep the set close.

The Rebels took an early 9-6 lead in the second set, but Kansas recovered and moved ahead 20-16. Ole Miss responded with a 4-0 run, including an ace by Meyer and a block by Carlton and Jaidyn Hartsifeld, to tie the set at 20-20. A challenge then reversed a call as the Jayhawks regained the lead and won 25-22.

Kansas led 11-7 in the third set and extended its advantage to 15-10 before completing the sweep with a 25-13 victory.

Ole Miss will finish the nonconference schedule and the Jayhawk Classic against Grand Canyon at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday. The match will be streamed on ESPN Plus.
