Ole Miss cross country teams set for Gans Creek Classic in Missouri

Ole Miss’ cross country teams will compete Friday, September 25, at the Gans Creek Classic at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Missouri. The women’s invitational 6K is scheduled for 8 a.m., followed by the men’s invitational 8K at 8:45 a.m. Three Ole Miss runners are also scheduled to compete in the 6K open race at 9:45 a.m.

The Rebels last raced at the Memphis Twilight on September 5. The Ole Miss women won the team title, while the men finished second.

Alicia Finnis led the women in Memphis with a third-place finish. Adie Luna placed fifth, Addy Mitchell seventh, Brooke Preputnick eighth and Jillian Candelino 11th. The five helped Ole Miss secure the overall team victory, and eight Ole Miss runners finished in the top 20.

Zack Gilbertson paced the men with a sixth-place finish, and Ky Hehir also placed in the top 10. John Shoemaker finished 11th, Owen Kelley 13th and Luke Hurley 16th. All five of Ole Miss’ scorers finished in the top 20.

The Gans Creek Classic will be the last regular-season meet at which the Ole Miss men’s and women’s teams compete at the same event. The men are scheduled to race next at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday, October 9, while the women are set to compete at Pre Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Friday, October 16. The teams are then scheduled to reunite at the SEC Championships in Columbia, Missouri, at the end of October.
