MVSU to face Lincoln in Chicago Football Classic at Soldier Field

Mississippi Valley State will face Lincoln University (PA) in the Chicago Football Classic on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Soldier Field in Chicago. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central.

The Delta Devils are seeking their first victory of the 2026 season after opening with road games at Nicholls and Sacramento State. MVSU is averaging 126.5 rushing yards per game through two contests, led by Dezmond Ray’s 85 yards on 13 carries. Josh Brown has 79 rushing yards on 12 attempts, and Norman Taylor has 57 yards on 12 carries.

Brown has completed 17 passes for 63 yards, while Jordon Davis has completed four for 59 yards. Jaylen King leads the team with six receptions for 32 yards, and Nicholas Buggs has 37 receiving yards on two catches, including a 35-yard reception that is MVSU’s longest passing play of the season. Jackson Hampton has an 18-yard reception.

Defensively, MVSU has three interceptions and a fumble recovery through two games. Tyrell Johnson returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown, while Jamari Stokes and Joey Davis also have interceptions. Malek Jackson and Joel Queisser share the team lead with 12 tackles, followed by Will Hawkins with 10.

Stokes and Christ Kore have nine tackles each, and Douglas Franklin has eight tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Javieane Stevens leads the Delta Devils with 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

MVSU’s stated priorities for the matchup include protecting the football, limiting penalties and improving third-down execution. The Delta Devils have converted five of 27 third-down opportunities through two games.
