Jackson State soccer rallies past Austin Peay 3-1 at home
Jackson State scored twice in the second half to defeat Austin Peay 3-1 Friday at JSU Soccer Field in Jackson. The Tigers improved to 2-6-0 and produced goals from three players, while goalkeeper Taylor Osborn made eight saves.
Sarah Portis opened the scoring in the 19th minute, converting an opportunity created by Karime Antonio-Lopez. Austin Peay’s Nya Gibbs answered in the 41st minute, sending the teams into halftime tied 1-1.
Ryanne Hawthorn-Harper restored Jackson State’s lead in the 75th minute, scoring off an assist from India Wilson for her fourth goal of the season. Kyla Gomez added an insurance goal in the 86th minute, her first of the season.
Jackson State held a 20-19 advantage in total shots and an 11-9 edge in shots on goal. Portis, Hawthorn-Harper and Gomez each finished with three shots and one goal, while Osborn played all 90 minutes and kept Austin Peay scoreless over the final 49 minutes.
Jackson State will host Middle Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
