Alcorn takes 2-1 record to North Alabama for first meeting

Alcorn State will visit North Alabama for a football game at 6 p.m. CST on Sept. 19 at Bobby Wallace Field at Bank Independent Stadium in Florence, Alabama. The matchup will be the first meeting between the programs. Alcorn enters 2-1, while North Alabama is 1-2.

The Braves are coming off career-best performances by quarterback Jalen Tolbert and running back Ernest Temple. Tolbert was named Southwestern Athletic Conference offensive player of the week, while Temple earned the conference’s newcomer of the week honor. Tolbert enters the game ranked fourth in the Football Championship Subdivision in both passing yards, with 869, and passing touchdowns, with 10.

A victory would give Alcorn a 3-1 record, its first such start since 2018, and would be coach Cedric Thomas’ 14th career win. Thomas is in his third season leading the program and has a 13-14 record with Alcorn. The school said the Braves are 1-0 against the United Athletic Conference; North Alabama is a UAC opponent.

The game will be broadcast on WPRL 91.7 FM as part of the Braves Radio Network and streamed on ESPN+. Alcorn’s radio call will feature Charles Edmond on play-by-play and Cedric Tillman on the sidelines.

Alcorn will next face Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent Texas Southern on Sept. 26, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
