Washington County Economic Alliance calls for action on blight
The Washington County Economic Alliance is urging residents to advocate for stronger action against blight, arguing that property standards can protect surrounding owners without dictating how people use their property.
The alliance said a business owner who invests in an attractive storefront should not lose customers because a neighboring building is boarded up and collapsing. It also said owners should not see their property values decline because of buildings outside their control.
“No more complaining. No more finger pointing. Let’s be the generation that fixes it. Join us in advocating for change!” the alliance said.
