Official requests Major Disaster Declaration from President Trump

An official said in a Facebook post that they have requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Donald J. Trump.

In the brief post, the official wrote, “I’ve requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Donald J. Trump.” The post did not specify the location, the nature of the disaster or the date of the request.

A Major Disaster Declaration, if approved by the president, can unlock federal aid to supplement state, local and tribal recovery efforts. Such declarations typically make Federal Emergency Management Agency resources, personnel and funding available for emergency response, debris removal and rebuilding, and can include individual assistance for affected residents.

Requests for a declaration are generally reviewed by FEMA before the president decides whether to approve federal assistance. The Facebook post provides limited detail about the request. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
