A Mississippi official said Wednesday that President Donald J. Trump approved a request for a federal disaster declaration, a move the official said will help the state continue response and recovery efforts.
In a Facebook post, the official said, “He told me he approved my Disaster Declaration request, that he loved the people of Mississippi, and will be with us all the way.” The post added that the official and the entire state are grateful for the president’s quick approval.
Federal disaster declarations typically unlock federal funds and resources to support state and local response, including personnel, equipment and financial assistance for recovery. Such declarations often lead to coordination between state authorities and federal agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
