Rotary Club of Southaven hands out ‘Purple Pinkie’ donuts to raise polio awareness

A Facebook post thanked the Rotary Club of Southaven for stopping by with “Purple Pinkie” donuts this morning to draw attention to the continuing threat of polio in parts of the world.

The post said the Rotary Club partnered with Dunkin Donuts to help raise awareness. The club used the donuts to highlight the global immunization practice of marking a child’s left pinkie with purple dye on vaccination day.

According to the post, the purple pinkie signifies that a child has received the polio vaccine and serves as an international symbol of the effort to achieve a polio-free world. Rotary clubs worldwide have long supported polio immunization campaigns and public education as part of broader global eradication efforts.

The visit reflects local civic engagement with global public health issues and aims to inform residents about why vaccination remains important. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
