Group doomscrolls during downtime; Facebook post becomes unavailable
This week, a Facebook post from a group account described employees spending downtime scrolling social media and trying an online trend, but the post is now unavailable on the platform.
The post said, “We doomscrolled,” and joked that an algorithm encouraged them to follow a trend. It included hashtags such as #WeveGotJokesToday and #OfficeOperator and described the activity as “very demure, very mindful, very questionable use of downtime.”
The message illustrates how social media users often describe habitual scrolling and how platforms surface trends. Doomscrolling refers to prolonged consumption of negative or trivial content on social feeds, a behavior that has drawn attention from researchers and mental health experts in recent years.
Facebook displays a notice that content isn’t available when posts are shared with a limited audience, have their privacy settings changed or are deleted. This post carried that notice at the time of review. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
