Jackson police chief presents budget proposal to council
Chief Brackney presented her budget proposal to City Council at the budget meeting this afternoon, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The presentation marks the start of the department’s formal request for funding for the coming fiscal period. The Jackson Police Department is the city’s primary law enforcement agency, responsible for public safety, crime prevention and community policing programs.
Police budgets typically cover personnel costs, training, equipment, technology and community outreach, as well as overtime and investigative expenses. How the council responds can shape staffing levels, patrol capacity and the department’s ability to pursue new initiatives.
The City Council will review the proposal, and may schedule further discussion or public hearings before voting on a final budget. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
