Reeves announces $3.4 million to expand youth mental health services
Gov. Tate Reeves announced Wednesday that the state is deploying $3,375,709 to expand mental health services for children, adolescents and young adults affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The governor’s office said the funding — about $3.3 million — will support expanded services through Methodist Children’s Homes of Mississippi. The announcement said the investment is intended to help more young people overcome adversity and reach their full potential.
The money comes through the Community Development Block Grant CARES Act Coronavirus Relief program, the governor’s office said. Methodist Children’s Homes of Mississippi is a long-established nonprofit that provides care and services to children and families in the state.
Health officials and researchers have reported increased behavioral health needs among young people since the pandemic, and state leaders say targeted funding aims to address that demand. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
