MDWFP urges tree stand safety during Mississippi archery season

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is urging hunters to prioritize tree stand safety as archery season gets underway in Mississippi. The agency says tree stand falls account for many hunting accidents in the state.

MDWFP advises hunters to check equipment before a hunt and put on a safety harness before climbing. It also emphasizes safe climbing practices to help prevent falls.

Meridian gathering brings leaders and officials together at Highland Park

East Mississippi REALTORS® held a gathering at historic Highland Park in Meridian, bringing together city leaders, law enforcement and public officials. The event focused on fellowship, conversation, relationship-building and stronger communication.

Mayor Percy Bland, Community Development Director Terrell Thompson and Fire Chief Michael Evans shared updates about work and opportunities ahead in Meridian. The source describes the gathering as this year’s event but does not give a calendar date.

Lafayette County imposes 30-day burn ban amid dry conditions

Lafayette County is under a burn ban for 30 days, according to Lafayette County EMA. The agency cites dry conditions that can allow outdoor fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control.

The ban prohibits burning brush piles and yard debris, household waste, fields, pastures, ditch lines, campfires, bonfires, burn barrels and other open flames outdoors. Residents who see smoke or fire should call 911 immediately.

New Albany-area museum schedules graphic T-shirt bedazzling class

The Union County Heritage Museum will host Lee Ann Thompson’s Graphic T-Shirt Bedazzling Class on October 19 at 6 p.m. The class is for participants ages 14 and older and will teach them to decorate their own graphic T-shirts.

Participants must bring a graphic T-shirt; other supplies are provided. The cost is $25 per person, and attendees can take home supplies for a future project.
