Lafayette County officials warn of wind and flooding from Isaias remnants

The remnants of Isaias are moving through Lafayette County, bringing a wind advisory through 8 p.m. and a flood watch through 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials expect wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph and about 1 inch of rain in Oxford, with the heaviest rainfall expected from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Low spots and ditches can flood quickly, and motorists are advised to turn around if water covers a road.

Residents should bring in or secure loose items, including patio furniture and trash cans. Tree limbs and power lines could fall. Anyone who sees a downed line should stay away and report it to their power company.

Rain and wind are expected to ease this evening. Sunday is expected to be sunny, with a high near 84, though officials cautioned residents to watch for limbs and debris on roads and urged them to enable Wireless Emergency Alerts on their phones.
