Panola County sheriff warns of jury-duty warrant phone scam

The Panola County Sheriff's Office is warning Mississippi residents about a phone scam in which a caller identifying himself as “Lt. Woods” claimed a citizen had an arrest warrant for missing jury duty.

The office said it does not have a lieutenant named Woods and will not call people to tell them they have a warrant for missing jury duty.

The sheriff's office also said it will never demand payment of a fine by phone and does not accept money for fine payments. Such payments are handled by the appropriate court, according to the warning.
