DeSoto County approves 34.25-mill rate for Fiscal Year 2027
The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors approved a millage rate of 34.25 mills for Fiscal Year 2027, keeping the county tax rate at the same level as the current fiscal year. The fiscal year begins Oct. 1, 2026.
Residents will not see an increase in the county property tax rate unless their assessed property value has changed. The millage rate applies to real and personal property, vehicle tags and mobile homes.
DeSoto County has not increased its millage rate since 2004. The rate remained at 41.02 mills for more than 20 years before the board voted unanimously in August 2025 to reduce it by 6.77 mills to 34.25 mills.
The new budget includes an additional ambulance for the Love area, modifications to two county fire stations and funding for the county’s first paid firefighters. It also includes funding for the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office and County Courts to address the demands of a growing county.
