Two arrested in Perry County for stealing used cooking oil
PERRY COUNTY — Two people were arrested May 11 in connection with the theft of used cooking oil from a Perry County restaurant, the Perry County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies arrested Wesley Dion Chen, 39, of New York, and Huang Zhong Hui, 37, of Pennsylvania, the department said. Both were charged with two counts of malicious mischief and larceny.
The sheriff’s department said Chen and Hui were identified as the people who stole used cooking oil from the Catfish Wagon Restaurant on two separate occasions. Used cooking oil is commonly sold to recyclers, and thefts of the material have risen in some areas because it can be collected and resold.
The sheriff’s department said other law enforcement agencies are investigating similar incidents in other jurisdictions and possible links between the cases. Sheriff Jacob Garner thanked Perry County residents for helping deputies locate and identify the suspects. “Me and my team will continue working hard to identify, locate, and arrest individuals who choose to come into Perry County and steal from our hardworking citizens,” Garner said.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
