Vicksburg police say viral video did not occur in city
The Vicksburg Police Department said Monday it is aware of a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows a toddler smoking, but investigators determined the incident did not occur within the department’s jurisdiction and VPD is not the investigating agency.
In a Facebook post, the department said community concern prompted the review of the footage. The department did not provide details about where or when the incident in the video may have occurred.
The department reiterated that the safety and well-being of children remain a priority for all law enforcement agencies and encouraged anyone with information about incidents involving child welfare to contact authorities in the jurisdiction where the event occurred, such as local police or child protective services.
For media inquiries, public affairs and communications specialist Marcus James provided a cellphone number, 601-262-8791, and an email address, mjames@vicksburg.org.
Vicksburg is a city in western Mississippi on the Mississippi River. This is a developing matter; we will provide more information as it becomes available.
