Vicksburg police say grand jury returns 70 indictments

The Vicksburg Police Department said in a Facebook post that the most recent grand jury returned 70 indictments in cases the department investigated, reaffirming its commitment to apprehending and prosecuting wrongdoers in the city.

The department said it works diligently alongside the District Attorney’s Office to keep the community safe and credited the men and women of its Criminal Investigations Division for their work preparing cases for presentation to the grand jury.

A grand jury reviews evidence presented by prosecutors and law enforcement and decides whether there is probable cause to charge individuals. Indictments signal that jurors found sufficient evidence to bring formal charges; they do not determine guilt.

The department stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
