Vicksburg police engage youth at Drive to Thrive program
The Vicksburg Police Department said in a Facebook post that Chief Larry Burns and Deputy Chief Tommy Curtis spent time with young people participating in the Drive to Thrive Summer Program in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
The department said the leaders used conversation, encouragement and simply being present to reinforce the importance of positive relationships between law enforcement and the youth they serve. The post said the department is committed to investing in the community “beyond the badge” and views every interaction as an opportunity to encourage and inspire young people.
The Drive to Thrive Summer Program is a youth engagement initiative that brings young people together for activities during the summer months. The Vicksburg Police Department, the municipal law enforcement agency for the city, thanked the program for the invitation and said it looks forward to continuing efforts to build trust and create connections.
This outreach reflects broader community-policing efforts to strengthen ties between officers and residents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
