Vicksburg Police Department shares throwback photo of officers at target practice

The Vicksburg Police Department posted a throwback photograph on Facebook showing several officers taking part in an indoor target practice session, identifying the officers from left to right as Tommy Kavanaugh, Charles Chisley, Herman Redick and Richard King, and citing the Old Courthouse Museum files as the source of the image, the department said in the post.

The department tagged the update “#ThrowbackThursday” and invited residents to share memories, stories or photos from the era depicted in the picture. The post thanked former and current officers for their service to the community.

The Vicksburg Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency that serves the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Local police departments and historical societies often use archival photographs to highlight changes in training, equipment and community relations over time.

Officials and historians say such images help the public remember past service and preserve local history. The department encouraged anyone with additional information or photographs to contribute to the record. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
