Vicksburg Police Department relaunches Citizens Academy; applications due Aug. 21
The Vicksburg Police Department is relaunching its Citizens Academy and is accepting applications through Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said the program offers residents an inside look at everyday policing, including traffic stops, criminal investigations, use-of-force considerations, criminal law and decision-making under pressure. The post encouraged people to attend to ask questions and observe policing “from the other side of the badge.”
Officials said the academy is intended for a broad audience, including people considering careers in law enforcement, community members interested in local public safety and others who want to better understand police work. Citizens academies are commonly used by police agencies to increase transparency, improve community relations and give residents hands-on exposure to departmental operations.
Those interested should submit applications by the Aug. 21 deadline and can find details on the Vicksburg Police Department’s Facebook page, the post said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
