Vicksburg police clear officers after shoplifting arrest inquiry

Vicksburg police said their Internal Affairs Division found no misconduct after reviewing a social media video alleging an officer “tampered with evidence” during a December 2025 shoplifting arrest.

The department said in a statement on its Facebook page that during the booking process personal property, including cellular phones, is collected, inventoried and secured to safely store an arrestee’s belongings. The Internal Affairs Division determined the responding officers acted in accordance with established procedures and did not delete, alter or otherwise access information on the phone; the device was powered off before being secured, the department said.

According to the statement, officers were dispatched in December 2025 to a local business after employees reported alleged shoplifting. A business representative detained the individual under a citizen’s arrest before officers arrived. Responding officers said they corroborated the store’s account, confirmed the business wished to pursue charges and lawfully arrested and transported the person to the Vicksburg Police Department.

The Vicksburg Police Department said it takes allegations of officer misconduct seriously and directs those with grievances to file a formal complaint with the Internal Affairs Division. With the completion of the investigation, the department said it considers the matter addressed and remains focused on serving the community. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
